Ritchie Gears Up For Uniquely Canadian Community League Day
Ritchie Community League plans to give this year’s Community League Day celebration a distinct Canadian flavor, in recognition of our country’s 150th birthday.
In what is likely a first for our league, we will be hosting a Canadian Citzenship Ceremony at 1:00 p.m. Approximately 50 people will be sworn in and officially receive their citizenship papers as new Canadians. Our job is to give them and their families a warm welcome and a positive preview of what community leagues are all about.
And we plan to do that in style.
Once again, we have a full menu of activities planned for the day, including a free breakfast, children’s cardboard car parade, live music, bouncy castle, food trucks and a variety of displays by the league and partner agencies.
As in the past three years, we are also teaming up with the Mainstreet Cruisers and Edmonton Hot Rod Association to host a classic car show, from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. The cars will be showcased in the lovely bowl in the east end of Ritchie Park.
In keeping with the “Canada 150” theme, we are asking everyone to wear something Canadian (i.e. hats and shirts) and we will be decorating the hall and park with Canadian flags and colors.
We are also attempting to connect with one or more indigenous groups to acknowledge the manner in which Ritchie lands were used 150 years ago.
Everyone is welcome - Admission is free.
